(Web Desk): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has given the go-ahead for the purchase of 500 electric buses for Karachi and Hyderabad as part of the Peoples Green Transport Project.
Chairman of the 48th PPP Policy Board meeting at CM House, Murad Ali Shah approved the scope, structure, and risk framework of the project. The board authorized the project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode, allowing for mass deployment of electric buses in the two cities.
In accordance with official information, the board approved an revised unsolicited offer of a private company, ascribing it the Right of First Refusal and exclusion from prequalification. It also approved starting the investor solicitation process to attract a private partner.
Under the proposal, 500 modern electric buses will be phased in, accompanied by charging depots, bus shelters, fare collection mechanisms, and a smart transport network.
The project will operate on a Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate and Transfer (DBFMOT) model with a 12-year concession period, expected to serve more than 200,000 passengers daily.
Officials said the project would integrate with Karachi Green Line BRT system, reducing pollution and easing traffic congestion.
The CM welcomed the development as a “major leap towards Sindh s clean, modern, and green mobility,” opening a new chapter in the urban transport infrastructure of the province.
